My dream dress

I've finally found it- my dream dress shape!

I realised a few months ago that high necklines do nothing for my small bust, and gathered skirts do nothing for my overall shape. I've made a couple of dresses with kinda semi-circle-ish skirts (haven't made any full circles yet) and Husband commented how much they suited me. Then when I made the Colette Pastille I fell in love with the sweetheart neckline and Husband said, "You need to make all your dresses like that!"

So I combined the bodice from Pastille with the skirt from New Look 6886, and the result is my dream dress! I feel so very pretty in it that I want to skip down the road, singing "I Feel Pretty" at the top of my lungs!!!

Not much to say about this. The bodice still is not perfect. I lined the bodice with blue slippery stuff, but left the skirt unlined as I will wear a petticoat with it. I sewed about 50cm of white ricrac to the hem then realised I didn't have enough to go all the way around, so had to unpick it and drive to Spotlight only to find they had NO large ricrac. So I had to make do with this stuff which I actually rather like.

The fabric is pique. I've had this sitting in my stash since I bought it for $4/m in October 2011.  It's the first time I've sewn with pique and I like it, especially for this kind of dress as it adds structure to the skirt.

I am reallllly envious of bloggers who have fantastic photos of their creations. My husband takes crap pictures and I'm terrible at using the tripod. It is going to suck in Me Made May when I have to take a photo of myself every day!

    1. Thanks! The colour of the fabric didn't come up very well in the photos. It's dark blue and has a lovely bumpy texture. And it was so cheap! Win!

    1. Thankyou, sister dear! I can't wait to make the Cambie, although it may have to wait until Springtime.
