I downloaded it and watched in on my iPad and fell in love with Jade's little cropped jacket in the 60s Week pattern challenge. I discovered this was the pattern she used:<div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-6-y2pKrv5MJsqoxDn1bkbJRy5tsyEP8P76yNhmHapB_BLTBlKLXYPMlLn4-1GEeq2F2smvv2B0KsZKoHiZdnjRIqf6fIrRGRDjcEOB76DdPaca-Y3WWFu36arLzRaFzm4ycBlPPyp-pS/s640/blogger-image--1538224734.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-6-y2pKrv5MJsqoxDn1bkbJRy5tsyEP8P76yNhmHapB_BLTBlKLXYPMlLn4-1GEeq2F2smvv2B0KsZKoHiZdnjRIqf6fIrRGRDjcEOB76DdPaca-Y3WWFu36arLzRaFzm4ycBlPPyp-pS/s640/blogger-image--1538224734.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div><br></div><div>I couldn't find the pattern for sale anywhere, so searched eBay for something similar. I had no luck at all! However, I did find this little number, in my size, and thought it was a good enough substitute. I could have kept searching, but there were only 3 weeks of winter left and I wanted to get it done in time before the weather gets hot.</div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhodtqhiNR8kVh6Z-pyue6QGSC39nQaM0whM6pEif7sD4JqksNeyv51fDAiOc2vdoNBYMjGxwHeh-Np_Ilq4zdEp7LG4Eq79vV4RPZysQQXFR69fhVqZN4nbNI59vwmFQXhG4yTcgQz5mWs/s640/blogger-image--154585767.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhodtqhiNR8kVh6Z-pyue6QGSC39nQaM0whM6pEif7sD4JqksNeyv51fDAiOc2vdoNBYMjGxwHeh-Np_Ilq4zdEp7LG4Eq79vV4RPZysQQXFR69fhVqZN4nbNI59vwmFQXhG4yTcgQz5mWs/s640/blogger-image--154585767.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div><br></div><div>I found some red wool mix at Spotlight for only $4.95/m and grabbed four metres of it. Turns out I didn't need that much as it is super wide, but it will all get used!</div><div><br></div><div>I started with the jacket. I transferred all my markings using carbon and a tracing wheel. I'm so glad I took the time to do this, because attaching the little yoke insert thing at the front would have been impossible without clear markings. As it was, it's a little dodgy when you look closely. In hindsight, I should have seen the lining first to practise the fiddly bits.</div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhwAt-Nat-akCzk0nJhOAMzNyYz4smps0ayCwGRAcmF-nT-LlLBpJx5azBmG2jiNOhH6YNxv2huEkZuDo9M1Ge-CZUmHdG2MV1eRwJ5PWJ7513ZIgnMoXzqUMncaL-i-MMJ6u9itMtGkPBv/s640/blogger-image--1858884732.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhwAt-Nat-akCzk0nJhOAMzNyYz4smps0ayCwGRAcmF-nT-LlLBpJx5azBmG2jiNOhH6YNxv2huEkZuDo9M1Ge-CZUmHdG2MV1eRwJ5PWJ7513ZIgnMoXzqUMncaL-i-MMJ6u9itMtGkPBv/s640/blogger-image--1858884732.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div><br></div><div>It is fully lined to the edges, and therefore is completely reversible. The arms are pulling up a bit due to the lining but the rest of it sits really well. It's very simple and smart. It doesn't have any fastenings- the pattern says to put buttons on the yoke thing but I left them out since they are purely aesthetic.</div><div>Not bad for my first jacket!</div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEipZU30O1270IOzFQp3nrIaq_L3tyeFYQ4jooJGfIUPDjmc-dsAlSPzuuv-QE58jm8WwtjZUvTgUAQyUBhhT0rsMqdWth7gSVo3WiMpXoOfmiiOpsAMHNU1t6QCDn6nnQK5wjT1sSk8Rrka/s640/blogger-image--1863073637.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEipZU30O1270IOzFQp3nrIaq_L3tyeFYQ4jooJGfIUPDjmc-dsAlSPzuuv-QE58jm8WwtjZUvTgUAQyUBhhT0rsMqdWth7gSVo3WiMpXoOfmiiOpsAMHNU1t6QCDn6nnQK5wjT1sSk8Rrka/s640/blogger-image--1863073637.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div><br></div><div>The dress was pretty quick to sew up. It's unlined- I thought about lining it due to itch factor, but decided I could just wear a slip underneath if I needed to. Turns out it's not itchy at all so that's good.</div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRyl_PfqBmrcTxLChIXTC1z6LTs1IdddeUkNK8bjV4WzUOqEg3gMoPeCCx3Yv7SJU7T20cFy21PWAcLc3iotWwUvLoSi54I3KiigMxDCa0UiB4ugGWxTgBFmnxlyxF0pTqYT8Cqf93IQu8/s640/blogger-image--1542581635.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRyl_PfqBmrcTxLChIXTC1z6LTs1IdddeUkNK8bjV4WzUOqEg3gMoPeCCx3Yv7SJU7T20cFy21PWAcLc3iotWwUvLoSi54I3KiigMxDCa0UiB4ugGWxTgBFmnxlyxF0pTqYT8Cqf93IQu8/s640/blogger-image--1542581635.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div><br></div><div>I had to unpick the side seams and reduce the seam allowance as much as I could around the hip area. Gosh, I really have been a slack blogger this year. I haven't really been doing a lot of sewing anyway. But now that the winter months are here (if you can call 24 degrees celcius 'winter' [ok, the days start off a lot colder than that, but end up in the 20s in the middle of the day]) and this is the time of year when I usually make something a bit different to what I normally would wear.<div><br></div><div>In winter, my work wardrobe doesn't really change- I'm a dress girl and just add tights <span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">and scarf (and leather jacket or vintage woollen coat if it's really cold). But on the weekends I live in either jeans and some kind of top, or leggings with a tunic-length top. I've noticed that tunic length chambray or denim shirts are quite popular, so thought I'd make myself one- even though it's the kind of item that screams 'soccer mom' to me, and I'm so not a soccer mom.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;"><br></span></div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_T-JYy3nMXTjVQtyGVHSZtX3drSSX3KZisqJIpUzWMPidcko1Q79PIwkfs4WH_xXfldbxhcR-ZT4hnprbhhXTC7K4GIihJK_eHguY50Z6KHd5ZEw5IhCchxelemca3389IBnH4LyUuX7X/s640/blogger-image-1463282273.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_T-JYy3nMXTjVQtyGVHSZtX3drSSX3KZisqJIpUzWMPidcko1Q79PIwkfs4WH_xXfldbxhcR-ZT4hnprbhhXTC7K4GIihJK_eHguY50Z6KHd5ZEw5IhCchxelemca3389IBnH4LyUuX7X/s640/blogger-image-1463282273.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div><br></div><div>Spotlight had 30% off their denims about a month ago so I picked up two metres of this at $11/m </div><div>(I bought extra so I could make a skirt or something for Lizzie). I already and a pattern in my stash- this one by Lisette for Simplicity, which is known as the Traveller Dress.</div><div><br></div><div>I've already made View A but need to remake it in some cuter fabric and with some alterations. I made View B, but with the collar instead of a silly little neckband thing pictured on that view. Since I already knew that the size 8 would fit, I just went straight ahead and cut out an 8.</div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTiSK12nMRIZZH5uYsakIreF1rNnhjzyP0vuMCztoiAzejApnvT9l0HFmtYPjDkAciKDjYARXpKAC3jJXMzslXW9-iAHsnLNGQ9fkCuejzBEGvv1YvbKeQp5RFaIQz95cjEIoSUnKBNcGa/s640/blogger-image--731365164.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTiSK12nMRIZZH5uYsakIreF1rNnhjzyP0vuMCztoiAzejApnvT9l0HFmtYPjDkAciKDjYARXpKAC3jJXMzslXW9-iAHsnLNGQ9fkCuejzBEGvv1YvbKeQp5RFaIQz95cjEIoSUnKBNcGa/s640/blogger-image--731365164.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div><br></div><div>This was a pretty straightforward sew. I took my time over the course of a week. I made the pockets using the wrong side of the denim to give some contrast. The denim is quite thin and was really nice to sew.</div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDCey4Z6Cj3UJCGJE_f5rxVRYrxM1uCFtreoshcH0wEsj8VSV4Rb7ywU7IhjxAwOxmlU11riGRlRZZkISHHeIA9cVyx_KtgC-SdODZpMl9PqE_oYW4xJBe5ippaK5FGLeOgQLZwtc3tguD/s640/blogger-image--1376377275.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDCey4Z6Cj3UJCGJE_f5rxVRYrxM1uCFtreoshcH0wEsj8VSV4Rb7ywU7IhjxAwOxmlU11riGRlRZZkISHHeIA9cVyx_KtgC-SdODZpMl9PqE_oYW4xJBe5ippaK5FGLeOgQLZwtc3tguD/s640/blogger-image--1376377275.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div><br></div><div>I did a couple of really stupid things. Firstly, I cut the front pieces right on the selvage, thinking that the button plackets would cover the silly little holes near the selvage. As you can see in the above picture, the holes are clearly visible. I also didn't follow the directions for hemming the dress/shirt/tunic/whatever (I overlocked it then turned it once, instead of turning it up twice) which made the button placket shorter than the hem. Not a huge disaster. </div><div><br></div><div>Also, when I wear it, the bottom two buttons don't sit right. It's pulling across my hips so I probably should have decreased my seam allowance down there.</div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjEuPpNoqYala9BVBLp8udH9IKPnRx2IKeKi0-J6Dp4a-1wD-6HxjCTu7ZcyIOylybpWE-hz30ifddIffcj81fHRhmqGf0VPBdv-nGkHh_gIYeZkTAZQPmY0TQrwlduMIsaUY3w6aP8OgrA/s640/blogger-image--156177216.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjEuPpNoqYala9BVBLp8udH9IKPnRx2IKeKi0-J6Dp4a-1wD-6HxjCTu7ZcyIOylybpWE-hz30ifddIffcj81fHRhmqGf0VPBdv-nGkHh_gIYeZkTAZQPmY0TQrwlduMIsaUY3w6aP8OgrA/s640/blogger-image--156177216.jpg"></a></div></div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div>I *think* I like it...my husband says I look like a nurse from the 1970s, but what would he know? I'm back....and it's only been about a month! Whoops. I have been doing a little bit of sewing. <div><br></div><div>I made this simple little A-line dress for Lizzie- I actually cut it out a year ago along with another one, and when I made the first one I decided to leave this one for a while as it was a bit big for her. It's super simple- just a front, back, facings and a little slit at the top of the back that closes with one button. I actually have two dresses made from this fabric, and we both wore our birdie dresses on Mother's Day. We looked totally cute.<br><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiEUiJBBV5Slcrx7csx69t3GFtHGkmMQrm18_6pOEe2uHMA-Hfewi1zmnE1capp-Az1SS3mr48LCPbdW0zAkzrFvW1eHk02chimNr-fU0mukBevqtuEibbnzchQAWtzBXI9AtPvfgJVyh1p/s640/blogger-image--2052333468.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiEUiJBBV5Slcrx7csx69t3GFtHGkmMQrm18_6pOEe2uHMA-Hfewi1zmnE1capp-Az1SS3mr48LCPbdW0zAkzrFvW1eHk02chimNr-fU0mukBevqtuEibbnzchQAWtzBXI9AtPvfgJVyh1p/s640/blogger-image--2052333468.jpg"></a></div><br></div></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgLzKmSU4ODkXp3O57y3AX1cqDBWmB_f8kHh2d0Z9oGp0ZgGW1CIgLlmV9yZGvz0RP6qK-SP-YXjAJhH83fIWYCnyoP0pkPobBR2ytlvPWQ5jU5yjuKO1c3JdYUVtwfQmMAqRxWEQRomMH_/s640/blogger-image-466802009.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgLzKmSU4ODkXp3O57y3AX1cqDBWmB_f8kHh2d0Z9oGp0ZgGW1CIgLlmV9yZGvz0RP6qK-SP-YXjAJhH83fIWYCnyoP0pkPobBR2ytlvPWQ5jU5yjuKO1c3JdYUVtwfQmMAqRxWEQRomMH_/s640/blogger-image-466802009.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div><br></div><div>I also made her a couple of Galleries by Boo! Designs...I think she has 5 or 6 of them now. I just love this pattern as there are so many variations. This was the first time making the top and I really only did that because I didn't have enough cherry fabric to make a dress.</div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_7Ehot3zowP2ZNOOuHpaPqQaN4c-zFIQUjpFsbtl3QitNhYM_qUJ9i5Ypt9ZHL0_vfHeTtVZN44Ntxobkx0wLfPG2ls0XtguG8mZA_NalAbkxNMy35MrYJE0Y67nnHgipVFGmyElt8LMi/s640/blogger-image-386204133.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_7Ehot3zowP2ZNOOuHpaPqQaN4c-zFIQUjpFsbtl3QitNhYM_qUJ9i5Ypt9ZHL0_vfHeTtVZN44Ntxobkx0wLfPG2ls0XtguG8mZA_NalAbkxNMy35MrYJE0Y67nnHgipVFGmyElt8LMi/s640/blogger-image-386204133.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div><br></div><div>I modified to opening at the back to make it super simple- just a small slit with a button, same as the birdie dress. She loves this one. I also have a dress made out of it and we wore them out to dinner last week for my birthday whereupon lots of ladies were pointing and oohing at our cuteness.</div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhgIJo4iuyYtVLGtadKsJ7XPLR-dcj0oZbMMrgIhKJoAKK7UCHMuQncDAmy6thccw20ngChajMQejW_w9sPiyt73Gyp8TW3fIfibQ5dw_DGX1-GKXdvd_IUefHm6WizsW-tKtVnaX0JzJhH/s640/blogger-image-1337136492.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhgIJo4iuyYtVLGtadKsJ7XPLR-dcj0oZbMMrgIhKJoAKK7UCHMuQncDAmy6thccw20ngChajMQejW_w9sPiyt73Gyp8TW3fIfibQ5dw_DGX1-GKXdvd_IUefHm6WizsW-tKtVnaX0JzJhH/s640/blogger-image-1337136492.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div><br></div><div>This was also my first time making a long sleeved version. I don't usually make long sleeved things as our winters are really short and I'd prefer to make things that she can wear all year round. She told me she doesn't like the sleeves so that's kinda annoying. I'm trying to convince her to wear it to her violin concert this weekend, and I'll wear my matching dress...</div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgvYcDKoewPWB1P_OlU5emlFpqW7FK9F_Dsnt3xG_jwI5Q91Aw_V5Ozn4BfMPovacaVZBOVlbOR2ZkWagAHIsZoUsFGnEnmX5kmJY94vPm9VFF1Sr3uq8AJsS45-3dD1R8MKRCD5vd8DKvY/s640/blogger-image--1835013301.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgvYcDKoewPWB1P_OlU5emlFpqW7FK9F_Dsnt3xG_jwI5Q91Aw_V5Ozn4BfMPovacaVZBOVlbOR2ZkWagAHIsZoUsFGnEnmX5kmJY94vPm9VFF1Sr3uq8AJsS45-3dD1R8MKRCD5vd8DKvY/s640/blogger-image--1835013301.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div><br></div><div>I made this a few months ago using a pattern that I almost got rid of because I didn't think it would suit me. Gosh, I haven't blogged since February, and it's almost May. What a slacker! I have an excuse though...teacher, first term of the school year....say no more!<div><br></div><div>I've actually made a couple of things but haven't had time to take any decent photos of myself wearing them. I like to have at least of couple of photos of me wearing my creations because it's kinda boring looking at Jane (my dummy) wearing them. I'm much cuter than her.</div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgXOjFKBWK_5IlZqXM1itndrcej5LaMiG9sZ-sqn1caaORaKVqE3Rx9c9Oat9HcZn3UVop1-XOTQGUlQEuSBLCDPGIxciPLt53f1LMlZlW0Qj6OFdKHs0nk56KJ4ktJpD0bVCwD6I0oO4k3/s640/blogger-image-740903287.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgXOjFKBWK_5IlZqXM1itndrcej5LaMiG9sZ-sqn1caaORaKVqE3Rx9c9Oat9HcZn3UVop1-XOTQGUlQEuSBLCDPGIxciPLt53f1LMlZlW0Qj6OFdKHs0nk56KJ4ktJpD0bVCwD6I0oO4k3/s640/blogger-image-740903287.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div><br></div><div>Anyway! I've wanted to revisit a few of my favourite patterns, but I promised myself to sew new-to-me patterns this year. I doubt I'll be able to stick to that for the whole year but we will see how it goes. I've had my eye on the Megan dress from Tilly Walnes' book ever since I bought it, but put it off because I have this weird notion that patterns from sewing books are a bitch to fit. I blame the Colette Sewing Handbook for this. I made a toile of the bodice in about July last year, and finally bit the bullet a few weeks ago.</div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi1QA4kfQSY-4Z8jExDgu9niN4Puajuj3TGGgbxKingeSbFlcxOeL4rRY4IerizhypQyZwIJteiEfBJ7ie4U66HJ_pfhVkMo2sz_HsdGEcaQ1hOUua1nb7wY_N59R-EdE4o_rgC-5yP0WPS/s640/blogger-image--1518163584.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi1QA4kfQSY-4Z8jExDgu9niN4Puajuj3TGGgbxKingeSbFlcxOeL4rRY4IerizhypQyZwIJteiEfBJ7ie4U66HJ_pfhVkMo2sz_HsdGEcaQ1hOUua1nb7wY_N59R-EdE4o_rgC-5yP0WPS/s640/blogger-image--1518163584.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div><br></div><div>It's so cute. I love the little dart tucks at the bust and have never made a dress with them. Also, the high waist intrigued me, and who doesn't love a little puffed sleeve? Crazy!<div><br></div><div>I always make her a special dress, and this year I decided on the Bow Peep Dress from the first issue of One Thimble magazine.</div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizBGLd7Do1eBdZBBvwpY84vfki3hDaeWkLB55j_OmzrHz9Tj7i5atof-dy3Ax5IQgFHQGPzuK7FhZkam2e0FroA5CCCj33Nh_BAQmMk8TcCh6ssI2pg9lcLwaPa2yuDwxJYRIA0ovsItkb/s640/blogger-image-1450551616.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizBGLd7Do1eBdZBBvwpY84vfki3hDaeWkLB55j_OmzrHz9Tj7i5atof-dy3Ax5IQgFHQGPzuK7FhZkam2e0FroA5CCCj33Nh_BAQmMk8TcCh6ssI2pg9lcLwaPa2yuDwxJYRIA0ovsItkb/s640/blogger-image-1450551616.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div><br></div><div>It's so pretty and girly!</div><div><br></div><div>For this dress, I wasn't my usual lazy self, and I actually went out and bought fabric specifically for this project. Some gorgeous black floral quilter's cotton, and some kind-of-matching polka dot quilter's cotton. The problem was that as I was cutting out the dress, I realised I was 30cm short. I didn't have enough to cut out the bodice front. I checked my local stores but they had sold out. I put out a call on Facebook and asked my non-local friends to look for it and post it to me. Then the following week, I went back to one of my local stores and they had it. Yay. But the next day, a friend in Brisbane sent me a text saying she'd bought me some from her local store. So I actually have a fair bit of it left now!</div><div><br></div><div>Anyway, this dress has some lovely features- the most obvious of which is the gorgeous thick belt loops which give a lace effect. It also has flutter sleeves (I doubled mine to make it even cuter), a massive sash, and button and loop closure at the back. How cute is it?!</div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjlA_QWIqLTJmFhB9nqIE-rxUSg8RWPZPs8JRj6U3HFn4itiZe3rOWJCM8BenOMHdeBc7Rxo-LKrMvTQ7U89FSHwjUIJAQ4UDO7pfXPH7kXi4ujhyphenhyphenipWnf5RGFwBomysose50xrvAraif4d/s640/blogger-image-1417929616.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjlA_QWIqLTJmFhB9nqIE-rxUSg8RWPZPs8JRj6U3HFn4itiZe3rOWJCM8BenOMHdeBc7Rxo-LKrMvTQ7U89FSHwjUIJAQ4UDO7pfXPH7kXi4ujhyphenhyphenipWnf5RGFwBomysose50xrvAraif4d/s640/blogger-image-1417929616.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div><br></div><div>I loved making this. The instructions were good, but if I make it again I'll attach the skirt differently. It says to press in the seam allowance of the main bodice, and to sew the skirt to the bodice lining, top stitching the main bodice afterwards. It just looked too messy to me and I should have trusted my instinct which told me that my pressing wasn't straight enough for it to work that way.</div><div><br></div><div>All in all, a most enjoyable sew. Lizzie lives it. I don't have any action pics yet as they are still on my camera.</div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiutwgL6ruOSGuF9oI4TesAO-pBvExbpaDiYM3ps2dWIH6WXdN3dvhqcWooZ4dDAYJNezEVmz731MuHzxNvdD-0yjgpZlD2MmOBamVIvZePLxlvELikPu6NWbTppR5vS8ACylhz0_VsMYYn/s640/blogger-image--1293432170.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiutwgL6ruOSGuF9oI4TesAO-pBvExbpaDiYM3ps2dWIH6WXdN3dvhqcWooZ4dDAYJNezEVmz731MuHzxNvdD-0yjgpZlD2MmOBamVIvZePLxlvELikPu6NWbTppR5vS8ACylhz0_VsMYYn/s640/blogger-image--1293432170.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div><br></div><div> I also made some cute bunting for her bed. I've never made one before, and am still slightly scared of sewing with lycra. So I decided to cut my teeth on the Boo! Designs one piece swimmers with some leftover bits of lycra.<div><br></div><div>The instructions for this pattern are amazing, and a really great starting point for those who have never made swimmers. I took the skills I learned from this pattern and used them on my second pair of swimmers.</div><div><br></div><div>I made up a size 5 without taking any measurements, and they are gaping at the top. I'm not sure if this is because they're too big or if I stretched the neckline whilst attaching the binding. I'm not too concerned because they were just a practice pair, and Lizzie loves them anyway. </div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh0O9L2khyKS6GWl6vQk-7g7QGvzk60vHkX1ThR31iu9ZWaLfp3HYhDH6530o8CyrJ61yapOWEx_mMNbPuFGKMA1h7oChf1xIbbhtIHMpZG64SVIxTy4SLnPiBdsPSYEZVugXf1yF53bPMe/s640/blogger-image--1543844217.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh0O9L2khyKS6GWl6vQk-7g7QGvzk60vHkX1ThR31iu9ZWaLfp3HYhDH6530o8CyrJ61yapOWEx_mMNbPuFGKMA1h7oChf1xIbbhtIHMpZG64SVIxTy4SLnPiBdsPSYEZVugXf1yF53bPMe/s640/blogger-image--1543844217.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div><br></div><div>I bought this funky 1970s bikini pattern on eBay the other week and I started on it as soon as it arrived. </div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiGiRyKgeuQ-n1F71dq-sEHLgXrhpMNzYEDEB96mM8HhCjeFajBQERYrwOlFJgMR8Sr7Q84h5f-knp8_1Abxs3WtwjkJbAfSNJCsTpF92Va8WzwUiLEhN66-e74l_kKlXy7KL2YR3P54m-q/s640/blogger-image--1941826033.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiGiRyKgeuQ-n1F71dq-sEHLgXrhpMNzYEDEB96mM8HhCjeFajBQERYrwOlFJgMR8Sr7Q84h5f-knp8_1Abxs3WtwjkJbAfSNJCsTpF92Va8WzwUiLEhN66-e74l_kKlXy7KL2YR3P54m-q/s640/blogger-image--1941826033.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div><br></div><div>I had some pretty good quality lycra that has been sitting in a drawer for ages as it really isn't my colour, and decided to practice with it. I used my overlocker for all the elastic and the side and crotch seams, and used my regular machine with a zigzag stitch and stretch needle for all my top stitching. A couple of weeks back, I went to Spotlight and they were having a sale on patterns- any three for $10. Seriously, that's a crazy price! I couldn't pass it up. This is what I got- <div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmU0RHMNvt7jyXVxF6ibzYLJVxAF-C_EDBDiNwVNnLohyon630oBotvosuPQQ3t78v0ckkQzJlF9T9aJIM9_QdfUVVRKO4IIN2wJESBX_KLyI_ONnaTX_m9DNovGxm4yKfPjx-_XpYIXKW/s640/blogger-image--2124467344.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmU0RHMNvt7jyXVxF6ibzYLJVxAF-C_EDBDiNwVNnLohyon630oBotvosuPQQ3t78v0ckkQzJlF9T9aJIM9_QdfUVVRKO4IIN2wJESBX_KLyI_ONnaTX_m9DNovGxm4yKfPjx-_XpYIXKW/s640/blogger-image--2124467344.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div><br></div><div>Some fabrics for Elizabeth's birthday dress (which is the reason I went there in the first place), and three patterns. I absolutely love the little dress, and I have so many little girls' patterns but I couldn't resist this one. The retro top pattern is nothing exciting, but I needed a third one to get the deal. The one I really wanted was New Look 6587. I'd seen a cute version of it on Dolly Clackett's blog (otherwise known as Roisin Muldoon, my favourite blogger and sewer of literally hundreds of dresses).</div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi8k4VmKeCmnfBIs0J6R9Y-EszBtCUP_neNi05jUV4kNOe4t0qyZcmWFbAmzNk4g6YphOqYEzB7o7jvNDNhj-lhKZI-jORyZr5aRwK7vj0rgEkFOlgg39u7ZHIIsteZGH5v7wi96az8v62M/s640/blogger-image--1953249107.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi8k4VmKeCmnfBIs0J6R9Y-EszBtCUP_neNi05jUV4kNOe4t0qyZcmWFbAmzNk4g6YphOqYEzB7o7jvNDNhj-lhKZI-jORyZr5aRwK7vj0rgEkFOlgg39u7ZHIIsteZGH5v7wi96az8v62M/s640/blogger-image--1953249107.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div><br></div><div>The pattern cover is incredibly underwhelming. The sample dress is just fecking ugly. Ugly length, way too much frippery going on at the bottom, and terrible fit. And is it just me, or does the model look like Stifler's Mom from American Pie???</div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">Anyway, it's View D that drew me to this pattern. It's like a totally different dress to the fugly sample one. It has a cute scoop neckline bound with double fold bias.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">I used some quilter's cotton from my stash, and ordered some picot bias from an Etsy seller called Junee and Pop. I ordered tomato red and white, intending to use the red, but when it arrived it was more orange than red so I used the white.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">Modification wise, I removed 6 inches from the skirt length as I hate anything below my knee. I also did my regular alteration of removing an inch of width from the neckline to account for my bony chest.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhdUdEKymxesRzsP4y-vw7EaiqNfKtOaH4kklEAiz8Lf7tM8liI-OpJzysnoi2YgwenCCGC0ktBjJBcE0od_xqx7npQG4XLD_D_6UxHdEVALpPLPBeJXCWxqG7xrbzE9zKgBUDNdZyRMiXC/s640/blogger-image--559714360.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhdUdEKymxesRzsP4y-vw7EaiqNfKtOaH4kklEAiz8Lf7tM8liI-OpJzysnoi2YgwenCCGC0ktBjJBcE0od_xqx7npQG4XLD_D_6UxHdEVALpPLPBeJXCWxqG7xrbzE9zKgBUDNdZyRMiXC/s640/blogger-image--559714360.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">It all came together very easily, except for the binding which was a bitch. My machine doesn't like sewing through bulk at the beginning or end of a seam, so I had to take my time with the front opening bit where the binding ends. I also neglected to stay stich the armhole edges (the pattern didn't tell me to and I didn't even think of it), so the first time I bound it, it was all stretched out of shape and horrible. I managed to shrink it a bit by stay stitching with a small stitch and steaming it with the iron, but the armholes aren't as nice as I'd like.</div></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhRNykUUR7sUI6IWBisQqjV5h9Co_bUmeYgC6I_4n2A4RlVAWx72bj6nEIpSa5IF4XsAi-0yQke3ItIOgtEbXPYUsPXxoIS1dqH8fZu2DSw55J1uQHW9S0YmPbO9jej0r3tS3JmufzjM7Rj/s640/blogger-image--1395709455.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhRNykUUR7sUI6IWBisQqjV5h9Co_bUmeYgC6I_4n2A4RlVAWx72bj6nEIpSa5IF4XsAi-0yQke3ItIOgtEbXPYUsPXxoIS1dqH8fZu2DSw55J1uQHW9S0YmPbO9jej0r3tS3JmufzjM7Rj/s640/blogger-image--1395709455.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">I am quite happy with the fit. I erred on the side of caution and kept it a bit looser but next time I will play around with the princess seams to get a closer fit. I also think the pockets should be closer to the middle and not so far to the side. The 12 buttons are all functional- I didn't bother with 'fake' buttons.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZMOI7Rg7Z91pMRAA_9tr6PdND6c8pX2N38WXCVzhYFHmkH6W3E8jyDmxHtK_mTVbYm1q9Kv1B6GiESZYqaAUMZVaNFRCU4ceHq4W-Budz4sO1-h41QXvAF38XMtQS2A6jqXAGXHbtsN0z/s640/blogger-image--2095341827.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZMOI7Rg7Z91pMRAA_9tr6PdND6c8pX2N38WXCVzhYFHmkH6W3E8jyDmxHtK_mTVbYm1q9Kv1B6GiESZYqaAUMZVaNFRCU4ceHq4W-Budz4sO1-h41QXvAF38XMtQS2A6jqXAGXHbtsN0z/s640/blogger-image--2095341827.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgCMn6ueDYry9ZDw-gNmc6n46ih0kMeFNevEBev5TfokTAFA0crRG1ZZAHu-s7MA7b9fcENT5DPtBSD2IHOCIifWRz_n9OrFp9GbDQ21H3ZsgCNtG-6oEw-Mk01TL6X3vlsXOD0grcm3qyw/s640/blogger-image--2001404338.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgCMn6ueDYry9ZDw-gNmc6n46ih0kMeFNevEBev5TfokTAFA0crRG1ZZAHu-s7MA7b9fcENT5DPtBSD2IHOCIifWRz_n9OrFp9GbDQ21H3ZsgCNtG-6oEw-Mk01TL6X3vlsXOD0grcm3qyw/s640/blogger-image--2001404338.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">I really like this dress and will probably make another one soon. But I'm going to try harder this year!<div><br></div><div>Firstly, my goals: </div><div><br></div><div>-As I did last year, give handmade gifts wherever possible. This is easy for my daughter's female friends...a skirt, or simple dress, or even a cushion cover. Much harder for my son's friends.</div><div><br></div><div>-Substantially slim down my stash. Last year I promised not to buy fabric for a whole year. This lasted six months, and then I went crazy. Consequently, my stash is bigger now than it was at the start of last year! So, I need to give some to charity, sell some, and use lots in my sewing projects.</div><div><br></div><div>-This is going to be the tricky part...limit my use of patterns that I've already made. I have a crazy amount of patterns, and probably 75% have never been sewn. This is because once I find a pattern that I like and make all the necessary adjustments, I'm too lazy to do it all over again with another pattern.</div><div><br></div><div>I have tidied up my storage area somewhat. I put all my scraps and fabrics that I haven't used for years into big storage boxes which are now living in the shed. I also took my PDF patterns out of the plastic drawers and put them in magazine files.</div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjnmeLdGfkNaAsnx4qqNhz9WH7_hSFRO1Dgf7FfkDEYkWXZjRAXQpSwOZ73i5TC4JGytQYOTVSpJJhudlpqT2gft1pdVaj-NWySysALwREyK8t06dnPcztlnfMDHtSB5xCYuDMBzPbfRCpX/s640/blogger-image--1081234301.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjnmeLdGfkNaAsnx4qqNhz9WH7_hSFRO1Dgf7FfkDEYkWXZjRAXQpSwOZ73i5TC4JGytQYOTVSpJJhudlpqT2gft1pdVaj-NWySysALwREyK8t06dnPcztlnfMDHtSB5xCYuDMBzPbfRCpX/s640/blogger-image--1081234301.jpg"></a></div></div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div>My printed patterns are all in the plastic drawers, along with various other crap including my mending/repurposing pile, plastic snaps, random sheet music, and my flute cases.</div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh9P67J9UfOLT0eM3HUwacu-6cfTj7CuP4FHx3FJH9LjtCfjhwVE3MLyY2XXT8f_39LeiJ-aYvtvJnZjn4JE9tMK9vv2hS854bjH4NxSHA13t0Q3yzAtWu9wezwRuTZkftFP-aCgBYsehdZ/s640/blogger-image--1668005796.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh9P67J9UfOLT0eM3HUwacu-6cfTj7CuP4FHx3FJH9LjtCfjhwVE3MLyY2XXT8f_39LeiJ-aYvtvJnZjn4JE9tMK9vv2hS854bjH4NxSHA13t0Q3yzAtWu9wezwRuTZkftFP-aCgBYsehdZ/s640/blogger-image--1668005796.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div>So, there you go. We've had a huge day, full of food, presents, family, and fun!<div><br></div><div>Here are two gifts I received- my first ever Bernie Dexter frock, which I love. I picked it up on EBay for $60, brand new with tags! They are normally about $200 in Australia. I asked hubby to buy me a dress and then I saw this one and nabbed it. </div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh8zOChw4sm3QEKJNJ7pP6YAZqCgflCpIgPNBycI1DAx3-YHQDp3HotNUORF-gcv60HMmeVrFQ9gZydB0vL2fv_Dhk02mQpfO0zkNKISHm_BHJ_LqNjGmEfXn79XldvYk5GIDQE5DIxKhvn/s640/blogger-image--1798065050.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh8zOChw4sm3QEKJNJ7pP6YAZqCgflCpIgPNBycI1DAx3-YHQDp3HotNUORF-gcv60HMmeVrFQ9gZydB0vL2fv_Dhk02mQpfO0zkNKISHm_BHJ_LqNjGmEfXn79XldvYk5GIDQE5DIxKhvn/s640/blogger-image--1798065050.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div><br></div><div>It fits me perfectly. These dresses definitely aren't worth $200- I'm not saying they aren't well made, because they are...but they're not so amazing that I'd pay that kinda money!</div><div><br></div><div>I also got this awesome book from my mother in law, which I specifically asked for. It's great! It has lots of different bodice, sleeve, skirt and neckline variations to make a gazillion different dresses. I can't wait to get tracing!</div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgoImx9DPG9WpbU1gOSzfutA-sAy_mjhbcqxlP-ECmnBB8YuUzVdrvw7-2xBGYPRcjJM75jLW-VIJE7MGzGVrFP0nYJ5Tz_DVU4caI0TMWGp_SA8r8uoHXNazeNj_3IKxCpgecLLCi_02-R/s640/blogger-image-1779169080.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgoImx9DPG9WpbU1gOSzfutA-sAy_mjhbcqxlP-ECmnBB8YuUzVdrvw7-2xBGYPRcjJM75jLW-VIJE7MGzGVrFP0nYJ5Tz_DVU4caI0TMWGp_SA8r8uoHXNazeNj_3IKxCpgecLLCi_02-R/s640/blogger-image-1779169080.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div><br></div><div>I hope you all had a lovely Christmas Day!</div><div><br></div>Noellehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03366330062645600734noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1948265110434583865.post-23396072074335343622015-12-10T04:01:00.001-08:002015-12-10T04:03:33.081-08:00Sewaholic Pacific Leggings and New Look 6344I'd decided this year that I was going to give handmade gifts wherever possible. My mother in law was easy- she specifically asked for a couple of woven tops as all of her summer tops are polyester (yuk!). We went to Spotlight and chose this pattern.<div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3Zyov6AMtImfGa-f_N_nUJKQpKkuZXzjxm-cV4SKkl0jvbl18sZ39K3yo8NVseg4dVMZqq0SR224mzN6WoVvkr4xBnW9Fc5LbXUaJH8w9fisxoDIo6gRqgSLFt3IoUZFIj7gdlHd36r8z/s640/blogger-image-1174799683.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3Zyov6AMtImfGa-f_N_nUJKQpKkuZXzjxm-cV4SKkl0jvbl18sZ39K3yo8NVseg4dVMZqq0SR224mzN6WoVvkr4xBnW9Fc5LbXUaJH8w9fisxoDIo6gRqgSLFt3IoUZFIj7gdlHd36r8z/s640/blogger-image-1174799683.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div><br></div><div>It's very simple but stylish, with pleats at the neckline and a simple button opening at the back. She chose this very lightweight fabric which was tagged as 'cotton feel polyester'. If I didn't know better, I would say that this stuff is all natural- it does not feel like it has any polyester at all! It wasn't super fun to sew with though, as it it very thin and doesn't crease well. However, it turned out well.</div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJEGruz8WumuG0Hfs3fw3yAJdN8fEm-ofIzZLlvBlkWANCeJv2HYmAavCNP9FeQae0oXZ16GgkaEcVSSfp0rPJlFmkkztZDS_OcsJ3Y9HFTCvu2PALV2JzqZCTLKjFT0VKukXWYgD4yvHv/s640/blogger-image--1392818419.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJEGruz8WumuG0Hfs3fw3yAJdN8fEm-ofIzZLlvBlkWANCeJv2HYmAavCNP9FeQae0oXZ16GgkaEcVSSfp0rPJlFmkkztZDS_OcsJ3Y9HFTCvu2PALV2JzqZCTLKjFT0VKukXWYgD4yvHv/s640/blogger-image--1392818419.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiGx1JH7ck5YzeHoNjjwD_K0r9l7RGJF_M8tDa8X1yq-AmMb4IW8a-Lohtug89PP0FrBwvqEQLiZVYYJdzhVqCwrVgJRIUUu_EzDb_hxY13n6SUvTkSUFidL1a7tt8gOQa4aK4Y0U76AENt/s640/blogger-image-1820961403.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiGx1JH7ck5YzeHoNjjwD_K0r9l7RGJF_M8tDa8X1yq-AmMb4IW8a-Lohtug89PP0FrBwvqEQLiZVYYJdzhVqCwrVgJRIUUu_EzDb_hxY13n6SUvTkSUFidL1a7tt8gOQa4aK4Y0U76AENt/s640/blogger-image-1820961403.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div><br></div><div>I didn't have to make any adjustments to the pattern- I simply cut the size 20 based on her measurements and it fit her fine (we had a fitting session before I started on the second one).</div><div><br></div><div>I told her that the second one would be made from a surprise fabric. I appreciate that the business is very busy, but customer service shouldn't stop once a sale has been made. </div><div><br></div><div>Anyway, I digress. I don't go back until February! Yeeha! I seriously love my job as a flute teacher- it's fun, rewarding, and allows me to spend heaps of time with my children. My kids go to a public school so they still have two more weeks until their holidays, so I've been using my time to sew Christmas gifts.<div><br></div><div>My five-year-old Elizabeth absolutely adores Mummy-made stuff, so I always make a few things for her. Usually I make a dress for her to wear on Christmas Day. I decided to try a new (to me) pattern, the Honey Gum Dress by Ainslee Fox Boutique, which was in One Thimble magazine.</div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgW2iq0RenzIpyK7T34trNAHVlCeXrBMwoKi3pEAvbTVL4nQqohAhRR3AkWORCcsMi-KvcvZw8FrQsHrBLKQpbjihUP78W-DUn8TE3Pb6tp5GS-UhxGhBKRv6YdkPPTB03sijFY-TyyGgZb/s640/blogger-image--2017429072.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgW2iq0RenzIpyK7T34trNAHVlCeXrBMwoKi3pEAvbTVL4nQqohAhRR3AkWORCcsMi-KvcvZw8FrQsHrBLKQpbjihUP78W-DUn8TE3Pb6tp5GS-UhxGhBKRv6YdkPPTB03sijFY-TyyGgZb/s640/blogger-image--2017429072.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div><br></div><div>It is designed to be quite roomy in the bodice section, so there's lots of room for growth. I think it's Timeless Treasures. The pattern is Blue Jays by Bobkin, which are supposed to have the legs gathered into a little cuff, but I didn't have any nice contrasting fabric to make the cuff with and I think they look cute like this.</div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQRnWcO-3nIUTWFj_Dl2bqjOyt2_WjEHG1hQKbk4yZn-TvgsJ4EWXrTxPoPji4w38gAHncfZQWIkhgFbBUAThdE50DNNE0OpgMJi-85_G0tBACHyF3t0V4dEIiYbCQboOjwGppnFlBgkv2/s640/blogger-image--214669123.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQRnWcO-3nIUTWFj_Dl2bqjOyt2_WjEHG1hQKbk4yZn-TvgsJ4EWXrTxPoPji4w38gAHncfZQWIkhgFbBUAThdE50DNNE0OpgMJi-85_G0tBACHyF3t0V4dEIiYbCQboOjwGppnFlBgkv2/s640/blogger-image--214669123.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div><br></div><div>Lastly, a new hat. She doesn't have any nice hats that fit. I found a nice pattern in a book I have called Sewing Children's Clothing. This was so easy- I made it in about an hour! I go down every 2 years for a mega geeky flute festival, and it's always cold. I wanted to whip up some dresses that I could layer up with a cardigan and tights.<div><br></div><div>Spotlight had 30% off their scuba and ponte knits, so I bought enough printed scuba to make a shift dress, and ponte to make a skater dress. </div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi43PNVwjPK1zXPQl2-9Rd484WHOEoaKXvRBmxADAAudcFdtMpSLghx8_3-OXgc8-s7gkUTMtY_DOxtc4oyI2FaiQPFVAG_DZwnLSuqWMT8TmhO0h17Kzh-x4ZyEJjdF3I34qIGfCbovfFE/s640/blogger-image-101076952.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi43PNVwjPK1zXPQl2-9Rd484WHOEoaKXvRBmxADAAudcFdtMpSLghx8_3-OXgc8-s7gkUTMtY_DOxtc4oyI2FaiQPFVAG_DZwnLSuqWMT8TmhO0h17Kzh-x4ZyEJjdF3I34qIGfCbovfFE/s640/blogger-image-101076952.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div><br></div><div>I didn't actually have a pattern for a knit shift dress, just thinking that I could make this one in my normal size. I haven't blogged in so long! I should probably try to get one post in for the month of October...so here it is.<div><br></div><div>Life has been crazy busy. This time of year is nuts when you are a teacher- even more so when you teach instrumental music and are obliged to organise/play at/attend a multitude of end of year concerts. Additionally, I had a concert with the orchestra I play in, two gigs with my jazz/funk band over the space of two days, and a 5 day trip to Canberra for the Australian Flute Festival. I still have to write my school reports. Ugh. </div><div><br></div><div>Anyway. I do love my job...so much. I'm really lucky that my passion also happens to be my job. It is just stressful in the last term of the year!</div><div><br></div><div>I have been doing lots of sewing. I have a big backlog of stuff to blog about, but haven't had a chance to take any decent photos. Here's the first project in the queue- my first dress of Spring.</div><div><br></div><div>I love it when winter comes to an end and I can start wearing bright, flowery dresses again. It just doesn't feel right wearing them in winter! This dress is one I've made a few times before, and I still haven't perfected the fit! I must have forgotten to take some width out of the centre front to account for my bony chest, as it gapes like crazy. Still, it's a very cute dress, and is dressy enough for work, but great as a casual dress too.</div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQzW3MxI4rxullJ0JY4zccLH8gArQ3DBOywuf42OXXZOSr0x_TNtZDAVxYyNJ_mvVHhtOjOcUv8hTyLd2FshaVFjw3k_urSMafrPsTpG-q2TVRmQ29epy7Svsjkc-HJncZ-r00RtXB72_A/s640/blogger-image--1837405797.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQzW3MxI4rxullJ0JY4zccLH8gArQ3DBOywuf42OXXZOSr0x_TNtZDAVxYyNJ_mvVHhtOjOcUv8hTyLd2FshaVFjw3k_urSMafrPsTpG-q2TVRmQ29epy7Svsjkc-HJncZ-r00RtXB72_A/s640/blogger-image--1837405797.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div><br></div><div>I bought this fabric to make a dress for one of Lizzie's friends, and loved it so much that I went back and got another few metres. It's quilting cotton, which I love to sew with. It's great for dresses with pleats in the skirt.</div><div><br></div><div>I made a couple of dresses to wear on my weekend in Canberra, but haven't photographed them yet. But here are my most recent makes. These are for my daughter's friend, whose birthday is on Saturday. Audrey is a really sweet girl, whose mum has impeccable taste. Audrey's bedroom looks like something from a magazine...it's all vintage fabrics and simplicity, not a complete jumble of crap like my kids' bedroom! Anyway, her mum is always going to handmade markets and buying dresses for Audrey as she doesn't sew. I know she is going to love this dress. I decided on the skirt at the last minute as a little extra.</div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjyhAebjAGw1mQjqV9BENBXbnsFm0t0i3T2U0I6OjjkPupkN36MVtx5BKhUbQlJgBKUo_G0fo8Z0U6iLOUKVUWSRDzVK2HLmd9aVgzaTia9xQVEOXRggyA0xO1LHvXEvaUfNgdqlxiWSIjc/s640/blogger-image--2045723988.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjyhAebjAGw1mQjqV9BENBXbnsFm0t0i3T2U0I6OjjkPupkN36MVtx5BKhUbQlJgBKUo_G0fo8Z0U6iLOUKVUWSRDzVK2HLmd9aVgzaTia9xQVEOXRggyA0xO1LHvXEvaUfNgdqlxiWSIjc/s640/blogger-image--2045723988.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div><br></div><div>I drafted the little Peter Pan collar myself and used a gorgeous vintage mother of pearl button at the back of the dress. I think this fabric is so pretty. It looks like linen, but is actually quilting cotton.</div><div><br></div><div>The skirt is just a super simple make- two cuts of the width of the fabric sewn together with an elastic casing. I probably could have just used one width of the fabric but this version is a lot more gathered and twirly.</div><div><br></div><div>In other news...I chopped my hair off. My hairdresser comes to my house, and the night before she was due to come, I decided all of a sudden to go for a big change. I showed her the style I had in mind, and said, "Do it before I change my mind!". I'm so glad I did it...I feel so different, and funky! Husband is not too keen on it, but it's not his hair, is it?</div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjy6C0JpsWm9vD3z1xbrwWEMMNVGFnmGUiTeRpy5Eyj3T6Hmm1MiRoYFM1D-WpOXNIYHF0l0SErw5dhvCQHs_ECQ1fdft8BlvCZrfEU15bIZzcsV1BtDt6_F-gDYVbb0DVL7IzGv4Ezlk1B/s640/blogger-image-1289428295.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjy6C0JpsWm9vD3z1xbrwWEMMNVGFnmGUiTeRpy5Eyj3T6Hmm1MiRoYFM1D-WpOXNIYHF0l0SErw5dhvCQHs_ECQ1fdft8BlvCZrfEU15bIZzcsV1BtDt6_F-gDYVbb0DVL7IzGv4Ezlk1B/s640/blogger-image-1289428295.jpg"></a></div><br></div><br></div>Noellehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03366330062645600734noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1948265110434583865.post-45122155281615611782015-09-13T03:17:00.001-07:002015-09-13T03:19:38.297-07:00Bonny bunnet for the ScotsmanI really have not been doing a lot of sewing lately, apart from making a few simple skirts for Lizzie and as birthday gifts for her friends. My husband ('The Scotsman') has been bugging me to make him this hat ever since I showed it to him. It is from Issue 6 of One Thimble e-zine.<br>
<div>
<br></div>
<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDQ0i8K_gpaM6vE_63yQyIgC8t9EcnpSEHf5d2pCJLFtImMhQokxBPA89-CcazrQiETIf4Ba85bXYqoOftz1DZ7NyHOHPIRPVHLURdLYoptziOCdLR-4puG5lZxUb7fBxCU31NSpcVba2H/s640/blogger-image-321642757.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDQ0i8K_gpaM6vE_63yQyIgC8t9EcnpSEHf5d2pCJLFtImMhQokxBPA89-CcazrQiETIf4Ba85bXYqoOftz1DZ7NyHOHPIRPVHLURdLYoptziOCdLR-4puG5lZxUb7fBxCU31NSpcVba2H/s640/blogger-image-321642757.jpg"></a></div>
<br></div>
<div>
<br></div>
<div>
At first I thought I wouldn't be able to make him one due to the enormity of his noggin, but I measured it and luckily discovered that the largest size would accomodate his Sputnik-sized head.</div>
<div>
<br></div>
<div>
Every time he asked me when I was going to make it, I'd say "Soon...I'm just in the middle of making something else right now". Fathers Day was last weekend, and I thought I should finally pull my finger out and make him one.</div>
<div>
<br></div>
<div>
I always intended to make it out of this beautiful wool tartan that I've had in my stash for about 6 years. After all, he is a born and bred Scotsman, and a Scotsman's bunnet should be made from tartan.</div>
<div>
<br></div>
<div>
I had to go and buy some very stiff stabiliser from Spotlight, but everything else was from my stash. The stabiliser was for the brim of the cap. I wanted to get the curve of the cap perfect, so I marked out my stitching line using my trusty seam gauge and some chalk.</div>
<div>
<br></div>
<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">

<br></div>
<div>
<br></div>
<div>
The brim turned out beautifully- taking these extra little steps really does make a difference to the finished product! Attaching the sides to the top was very tricky as I had to do a lot of easing to get them to match up and the use of many pins was necessary.</div>
<div>
<br></div>
<div>

<br></div>
<div>
I don't have a tailor's ham, and they really are a necessity when making a hat, so I improvised with one of Lizzie's toys. It worked a treat!</div>

I'm mostly very pleased with my pattern matching. There is a tiny little pleat in the back side seam, which I tried 3 times to fix, but the top part just did not want to ease into the side.</div>

I wanted to save it for a time when I had the confidence to make something really nice with it. I thought about making my favourite pattern, the Simplicity Lisette Round Trip dress, but I thought the print would really lend itself to more of a wiggle dress shape. However, one-piece dresses are a beast to fit on my figure, so I decided to mash the Lisette bodice with the skirt from this groovy retro Butterick pattern. </div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-cHdOdrxWrFZLGVcIpiQ0jjBIJh52O75TJcHNW6hticqay9pGJJITakFdD7JIHw3GPZ1deCiqB-d1Ncxpz9c5CWHBAUrlPD6838oOCqT91am2mpsMgeNCrAYhW8s1fyoYxxYxMgsY5MPj/s640/blogger-image--1759290766.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-cHdOdrxWrFZLGVcIpiQ0jjBIJh52O75TJcHNW6hticqay9pGJJITakFdD7JIHw3GPZ1deCiqB-d1Ncxpz9c5CWHBAUrlPD6838oOCqT91am2mpsMgeNCrAYhW8s1fyoYxxYxMgsY5MPj/s640/blogger-image--1759290766.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div><br></div><div>I cut the bodice on the second smallest size, tapering up a size at the waist, and cut the skirt on the second smallest size. The skirt has these incredibly complicated pleats at the waist, but they look nothing special from the outside! I ended up taking a mammoth 6 inches off the skirt length...seriously, a few inches below the knee is such an unflattering length (on me, anyway). My only other adjustment was to take a whole one inch seam on the centre back.</div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjNWGqyrd_Lyg_TP8TNY05MIcgeh7tWn3kR2Sx5H467-pZdm-y4WgCNhhcFR1Laz6gANpTemVhHsIUE7xuWB50-AwCo4FcdeUzt_mf-3S2wARtL2tfdQRRj78RpTWqzcgEtDfKnrrNeESjI/s640/blogger-image--140857113.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjNWGqyrd_Lyg_TP8TNY05MIcgeh7tWn3kR2Sx5H467-pZdm-y4WgCNhhcFR1Laz6gANpTemVhHsIUE7xuWB50-AwCo4FcdeUzt_mf-3S2wARtL2tfdQRRj78RpTWqzcgEtDfKnrrNeESjI/s640/blogger-image--140857113.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div><br></div><div>I did make one boo-boo, as is my way...I sewed my invisible zipper onto the wrong side (well, I sewed it to the right side of the fabric, which is the wrong side...) but I'm not too fussed about that as it's pretty neat. </div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjU_s0-4FNMq7mp4-pQVMUzofUPqL9te0vOkLdvBVOrn69S3VHEVUEmX_FEh6ACIACTMl1RBzuEB_s62Q74D-7n-g4C5t9Ov5CZXwhjE71KEEkvvvZnIhADhkNSXbQ4wYcPTStp60TqgqK9/s640/blogger-image-639306718.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjU_s0-4FNMq7mp4-pQVMUzofUPqL9te0vOkLdvBVOrn69S3VHEVUEmX_FEh6ACIACTMl1RBzuEB_s62Q74D-7n-g4C5t9Ov5CZXwhjE71KEEkvvvZnIhADhkNSXbQ4wYcPTStp60TqgqK9/s640/blogger-image-639306718.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div><br></div><div>I didn't have any matching buttons (it only needs one, at the top of the keyhole opening at the neck) so I made a matching fabric covered button. A few weeks ago at Spotlight, the scuba knit was half price. I've never sewed with it before but it felt nice and thick and durable, so I bought enough to make myself a Lady Skater Dress, according to the yardage chart.<div><br></div><div>I held on to the fabric for a while before cutting it out last weekend. I decided to cut a straight size 2, despite being 2 inches bigger in the waist than that size is cut for. I figured the stretch would be forgiving. I ended up having to reduce my bodice side seams right down to 1/4" to stop it from being really skin tight. Next time I'll cut a 3.</div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi6zz_Q51i5jhdDnccv9tXAaUA1gPOPecQ4lva8BGamX2AbLo2aEa98MXrCqKWZLg29MGyZpT6gIMRJf8iyH58mJFDxzUuTeaH9rHiHLF8Pc3VdLffVIaZsomYZI3LfHTDXvNetyil84lIV/s640/blogger-image--268698808.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi6zz_Q51i5jhdDnccv9tXAaUA1gPOPecQ4lva8BGamX2AbLo2aEa98MXrCqKWZLg29MGyZpT6gIMRJf8iyH58mJFDxzUuTeaH9rHiHLF8Pc3VdLffVIaZsomYZI3LfHTDXvNetyil84lIV/s640/blogger-image--268698808.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div><br></div><div>This was a very easy, fast sew. I did all my seams on the overlocker, which I'd loaded up with four spools of matching polyester sewing machine thread, because I couldn't find overlocker thread the right colour. This way was much cheaper, too! I top stitched the neckline with my twin needle, but I'm not sure I like it. I love the twin stitching on the hem, though!</div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhL6NUuQZ6_F7uCNC-Cd38EYLRlB9uI6N-sv8B2CzCaXld_A5rZ9N-gI0m7wRZjT8c1hmginejcj1E0eLNNpB3uSxKLbwiF7YjaPDqz22RE_IIcmHaxYYjL78GrFR1qs028vCzw0TqwJXX7/s640/blogger-image-171568690.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhL6NUuQZ6_F7uCNC-Cd38EYLRlB9uI6N-sv8B2CzCaXld_A5rZ9N-gI0m7wRZjT8c1hmginejcj1E0eLNNpB3uSxKLbwiF7YjaPDqz22RE_IIcmHaxYYjL78GrFR1qs028vCzw0TqwJXX7/s640/blogger-image-171568690.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhjg9PuHkr1bkjY1mdLo7N4K4zaLASVutsrGiuI0-7HksYzlS9f892DblqZeoFYZ_ovyy8zpvPQi6sldVbceGTtWlGnMQm0Pvz-t_YMAE1AUwLPVCBm4GGvCtyN_LdGAbVLs-LcQyZ3xHr9/s640/blogger-image-1383630672.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhjg9PuHkr1bkjY1mdLo7N4K4zaLASVutsrGiuI0-7HksYzlS9f892DblqZeoFYZ_ovyy8zpvPQi6sldVbceGTtWlGnMQm0Pvz-t_YMAE1AUwLPVCBm4GGvCtyN_LdGAbVLs-LcQyZ3xHr9/s640/blogger-image-1383630672.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div><br></div><div>This dress is incredibly comfy to wear, and so flattering! In the last two weeks I've made another 6 things for other people, and only one for myself. Whoops!<div><br></div><div>I ordered some fantastic metal zips from Boo! Designs, which are perfect for the Boo! Designs Gallery Dress (which I've made a few of by now!). I realise that my daughter is now starting to give her mummy a run for her money in the dress department, but I made her two more so I could try out the zips. They are semi-exposed, with the zip edges concealed between the dress and facing. I've been really busy with work and crap, and have kinda lost the will and motivation to make stuff for myself.<div><br></div><div>However, I did whip up this little Sewaholic Renfrew top:</div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEif819L4C6Uptosw3YOAtvQznqxeFiVcuCxq8CX8nmKn86qcNmqT8KiZ32ftL24w9iWDgMt2JT1xIIFig3jqyIyzjpAGHAQW-TydEG14pcg851i6kBSQ2GIjGB9uV9efo6OX62-C9u55CtR/s640/blogger-image-118883621.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEif819L4C6Uptosw3YOAtvQznqxeFiVcuCxq8CX8nmKn86qcNmqT8KiZ32ftL24w9iWDgMt2JT1xIIFig3jqyIyzjpAGHAQW-TydEG14pcg851i6kBSQ2GIjGB9uV9efo6OX62-C9u55CtR/s640/blogger-image-118883621.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div><br></div><div>I scraped it out of a very small piece of fabric, and had to use some plain red knit to line the cowl. Upon first inspection, I didn't think the print was directional, but when I first looked at this photo I realised that most of the bows on the front are upside down! Oh well. This was a really good stash busting project.</div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDyPPQjezowDLOH0YMZqIZ7-8HAoiwBjQkftpv5zpO2M_n32NmNz2vGYsXamZv2MvmCdjC-MKPBww-s1_BBqHuR6fWpN7_JHTJCCuN14wKKs2SA6cd0Jd8EQATHuS5XS3Euh81MshhjtbX/s640/blogger-image--1271049161.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDyPPQjezowDLOH0YMZqIZ7-8HAoiwBjQkftpv5zpO2M_n32NmNz2vGYsXamZv2MvmCdjC-MKPBww-s1_BBqHuR6fWpN7_JHTJCCuN14wKKs2SA6cd0Jd8EQATHuS5XS3Euh81MshhjtbX/s640/blogger-image--1271049161.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div><br></div><div>I also whipped up this little infinity scarf/ cowl type thing using a piece of leftover ponte. No effort at all was required. I think it took 10 minutes to make!</div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgCT37MLnbgdEhZSEhY3xQ9fQSGgVlMElYp1JVYFcDTLa52F08TLiPjDZ6U0WJKqANiweWplOZ0d_g41PkIs48aSWG39oem_IroW3EYVm9NemDietPv2ltPAH0dSFOjrhHoTAH4zzN7ptcy/s640/blogger-image-1791467664.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgCT37MLnbgdEhZSEhY3xQ9fQSGgVlMElYp1JVYFcDTLa52F08TLiPjDZ6U0WJKqANiweWplOZ0d_g41PkIs48aSWG39oem_IroW3EYVm9NemDietPv2ltPAH0dSFOjrhHoTAH4zzN7ptcy/s640/blogger-image-1791467664.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div><br></div><div>Lastly, a gift for a birthday party that the kids went to today. The dress is the Gallery by Boo! Designs. I got the pattern for the little headband by googling 'girls knotted headband'. This was not a stash busting project...in fact, I broke my fabric buying ban in a big way last weekend. Oh well, 6 months is pretty good!</div>Noellehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03366330062645600734noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1948265110434583865.post-17444851447848957862015-05-22T03:00:00.001-07:002015-05-22T03:00:29.161-07:00Me Made May no more!So, I've decided to chuck in Me Made May, for a few reasons. Firstly, I just cannot be bothered taking photos every day. I'm far too busy rushing kids out the door to think about taking happy snaps! Secondly, some days I've wanted to wear something store bought. Thirdly, I know that I have more than enough me mades to last me for a month, so it's really not going to give me a huge amount of personal satisfaction if I stick to it for a month. I wear me mades 9 days out of 10 so it's not a huge deal.<div><br></div><div>I've made a few little things, though. Jimmy was invited to a girl's birthday party, and I decided to try the Blossom Skirt from Issue 6 of One Thimble magazine.</div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhlsaAjDxev9b_2IG9sda7ocLvMxv6Hf7A8Y4yuF3V66QqkhL3k9L3ObN3mCTW8NOESiKMdQIGWpKN2v3Fv7poQTRhPidW5GaaVJFSYMRWC_nKGjcJPsZEqCn_6DdbvQesFX-kFwBv-mzD2/s640/blogger-image--1703265128.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhlsaAjDxev9b_2IG9sda7ocLvMxv6Hf7A8Y4yuF3V66QqkhL3k9L3ObN3mCTW8NOESiKMdQIGWpKN2v3Fv7poQTRhPidW5GaaVJFSYMRWC_nKGjcJPsZEqCn_6DdbvQesFX-kFwBv-mzD2/s640/blogger-image--1703265128.jpg"></a></div></div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div>This is a really nice little pattern. I couldn't drive past one without getting itchy fingers. "I'll just pop into this op shop" was met by groans from the children. However, I found that I got carried away and bought things that either didn't suit me, or didn't fit, and more often than not I'd end up donating the items back to my local op shop. So I've mostly steered clear of them for the past year.<div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgCVdFgyLhmJx8Vy8gBR7Xn_L79OyZO8HtSViIPZwHwCUsgXrQ4X00WgFtjRAUUxD4NJUB3ccJUw1XUUNdQd8qDMqintGCb2GD8JdNAcqP7LqhKPYdmJZgs2EM7boagphN01yCJAECj-Rmx/s640/blogger-image--586004444.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgCVdFgyLhmJx8Vy8gBR7Xn_L79OyZO8HtSViIPZwHwCUsgXrQ4X00WgFtjRAUUxD4NJUB3ccJUw1XUUNdQd8qDMqintGCb2GD8JdNAcqP7LqhKPYdmJZgs2EM7boagphN01yCJAECj-Rmx/s640/blogger-image--586004444.jpg"></a></div><br><div><br></div><div>Last week I found myself with loads of time before the afternoon school pick up, and realised I was right near an Endeavour Foundation store. These stores are extremely overpriced for second hand goods, but I've occasionally found a bargain there. I've been on the hunt for a wool coat and found this absolute gem for $17. I really enjoyed making the shorts for Lizzie (or Betty, as we sometimes call her), and decided to make two dresses for her, thinking she could wear one on Easter Sunday. I pulled out this pattern that I hadn't tried out yet. <div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDVr6SuXNkfWQvt8vGwSExarQcwLtuM-bVum3E3-aY120psfgFABB10zmBQJVg_PFJVcWdIfdJ2gQwjm-aPVTYvtFlzHF_vv3oxOGjDkqNinyaTBZ9lZFS91KKyfTLwsYGinnXd2dEueV8/s640/blogger-image-322431975.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDVr6SuXNkfWQvt8vGwSExarQcwLtuM-bVum3E3-aY120psfgFABB10zmBQJVg_PFJVcWdIfdJ2gQwjm-aPVTYvtFlzHF_vv3oxOGjDkqNinyaTBZ9lZFS91KKyfTLwsYGinnXd2dEueV8/s640/blogger-image-322431975.jpg"></a></div><br></div></div><div>Super, super easy. I chose to make very simple, unadorned ones as my two fabrics are very busy- a navy pique with white birds and colourful flowers, and a bright floral corduroy on a pink background. I cut all the pieces out and was going to try to make both dresses at once, but I knew that if I set myself a deadline (I had to finish them that day to have one ready for Easter), I would make a big booboo somewhere. So I decided just to sew up the pink one.</div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSSergMDsJPlbVa8rrt07QIXTTJ1tkybfyMKAwuMfyp9i7_QUE0fewKGpxIIcRO1PWZxfn_EvPWm-Z-LFJZFqOW_YGRhlR-IR-1jgdtB_ZeAYOEQsl0d9VRDoyg3psfacubsfpUxGfJPP0/s640/blogger-image--2031787212.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSSergMDsJPlbVa8rrt07QIXTTJ1tkybfyMKAwuMfyp9i7_QUE0fewKGpxIIcRO1PWZxfn_EvPWm-Z-LFJZFqOW_YGRhlR-IR-1jgdtB_ZeAYOEQsl0d9VRDoyg3psfacubsfpUxGfJPP0/s640/blogger-image--2031787212.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div><br></div><div>I had some really cute green polka dot bias binding in my stash and thought that would look cute to finish all the edges. Also, I thought binding would be quicker than the facings the pattern called for. It wasn't really, but the effect is very cute.</div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiiphNavHbmemIIJqmTpSlYFLAAULoyvGvsixiXHmoqF9GFt02KF4YU1CQBv-X3LopL0mC1Oy1PFbUGV3FVO4-xdXiNsk4Ql8c41jITzsQ7XN8EN_LueaTPm0ZO2pfzyXv7S34RiB-D3bdl/s640/blogger-image-1889164239.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiiphNavHbmemIIJqmTpSlYFLAAULoyvGvsixiXHmoqF9GFt02KF4YU1CQBv-X3LopL0mC1Oy1PFbUGV3FVO4-xdXiNsk4Ql8c41jITzsQ7XN8EN_LueaTPm0ZO2pfzyXv7S34RiB-D3bdl/s640/blogger-image-1889164239.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div><br></div><div>I made a size 5 and it is super huge on my tiny girl. But hey, I'd rather it be too big than too small! She didn't care at all that it was massive, and proudly wore it to Easter lunch at Gran's house. The other dress is sitting in my project bag...these are really winter dresses, and I had a hankerin' to squeeze in a few more summer items even though we are into the second month of Autumn. Today was the first autmnish day we've had so far.</div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjP6_IsvIY9cIbirI9fPNwMSSBKvrUHkAtj0sCXF_qVnaoXq50FFfo5aW__Xb1jyf_uEtfIkza-GNObzXDY_tINcC_Ll0ueZoI9SlSH3W2iP1IKvWyPLv_Y4WRLg7_NwfR61ESxgCa2tSCX/s640/blogger-image--1193277539.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjP6_IsvIY9cIbirI9fPNwMSSBKvrUHkAtj0sCXF_qVnaoXq50FFfo5aW__Xb1jyf_uEtfIkza-GNObzXDY_tINcC_Ll0ueZoI9SlSH3W2iP1IKvWyPLv_Y4WRLg7_NwfR61ESxgCa2tSCX/s640/blogger-image--1193277539.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div><br></div><div>Onto the summer items! I've had this pattern since Lizzie was a baby, and am ashamed to say I've never used it. It only goes up to size 4 so I thought I'd give it a go while she still can squeeze into it. I cut out the two top patterns, plus another pair of Blue Jays shorts, all using combinations of the blue gingham and brown floral.</div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSghlIOCM7-GPKnW9w-cAshffx8kSU_SVCow2ZfLHctQhNfUrBTA_e6OuvgZCmPZJvIUS5jJ11kMJcIXUq-bElf4H7_Ob3krF5wDZlDOirFj6MdsQPMPmrbStBF9Nqu1R4jYky6nNieWnn/s640/blogger-image-1677136034.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSghlIOCM7-GPKnW9w-cAshffx8kSU_SVCow2ZfLHctQhNfUrBTA_e6OuvgZCmPZJvIUS5jJ11kMJcIXUq-bElf4H7_Ob3krF5wDZlDOirFj6MdsQPMPmrbStBF9Nqu1R4jYky6nNieWnn/s640/blogger-image-1677136034.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div><br></div><div>I made the little button-back top on Monday night. I sewed up the leg seams, put one leg inside the other to sew the crotch seam...and realised I'd cut two of the same leg. How did I do this stupid thing? Well, the fabric wasn't wide enough to cut the piece on the fold, so I cut it twice on a single layer. What I didn't do was flip the pattern piece over for one of them!! </div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhLLoITc_5S9qKR7pelAS8bAqno9wHSn31oQk8Bu0pHvD-36pOMarTjNYmqeV7jPyrArvc2sejzXVcxUC_Aka106DvlzEItrYHIjYXntA8_fvUWn0qlNhimUBKAXDJrnujqnRKcF1CBFcVp/s640/blogger-image-1192756683.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhLLoITc_5S9qKR7pelAS8bAqno9wHSn31oQk8Bu0pHvD-36pOMarTjNYmqeV7jPyrArvc2sejzXVcxUC_Aka106DvlzEItrYHIjYXntA8_fvUWn0qlNhimUBKAXDJrnujqnRKcF1CBFcVp/s640/blogger-image-1192756683.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div><br></div><div>Gah! I was so annoyed. These shorts were going to be so cute! And I'd used up all the floral fabric! </div><div>I ummed and ahhed and in the end decided to cut the bits into two big rectangles, keep the original waistband that I'd cut, and add another strip of gingham to the bottom. Voila, a skirt!</div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRTzsUGmJiSY1O565WLivN82ztXfUicw-cWeagHVex7DCFLeQ-bIGN-OeCcXkYJ0XdsofMJ08FGt9-qP3Of3I8Rlt2wlKacidXnmiitlysMuwKWqPDw6GvnXED2s79BDkq-5ig9sXXo96O/s640/blogger-image--375477963.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRTzsUGmJiSY1O565WLivN82ztXfUicw-cWeagHVex7DCFLeQ-bIGN-OeCcXkYJ0XdsofMJ08FGt9-qP3Of3I8Rlt2wlKacidXnmiitlysMuwKWqPDw6GvnXED2s79BDkq-5ig9sXXo96O/s640/blogger-image--375477963.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div><br></div><div>So I finished that in the afternoon...after dinner, I decided to try to sew my final item, the peasant top. It took me just over an hour. After I sewed the neckline elastic casing, I couldn't be bothered doing another one, so for the sleeves I did a rolled hem and then sewed very thin elastic about 1cm from the edge. I like this look!</div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiaoG3abCHx2B1ctO8yxZ3d5mqxpMzAnpaVnkVAmG0BMwd4xq5P-7e7MbQpgbFXJSj5TJnGdDdYaBu5GjilA0EklVui9Vz-UhtS45p2VbHaYOuNtXGSFEk2NksvPed6BqzU8zoPQ8N5V-6K/s640/blogger-image-1483560036.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiaoG3abCHx2B1ctO8yxZ3d5mqxpMzAnpaVnkVAmG0BMwd4xq5P-7e7MbQpgbFXJSj5TJnGdDdYaBu5GjilA0EklVui9Vz-UhtS45p2VbHaYOuNtXGSFEk2NksvPed6BqzU8zoPQ8N5V-6K/s640/blogger-image-1483560036.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div><br></div><div>This top could have done with at least another two inches of length, but I'm happy, and Lizzie absolutely adores it!
